Twin Peaks Diane Halloween Costume
In the second installment of our seasonal costumes, we’ve got our ideas for your Twin Peaks Diane Halloween costume. She has such an iconic look – a very strong, 1940s-inspired style. Series’ costume designer Nancy Steiner purposely crafted a bold, vintage outfit for our favorite secretary’s long-awaited appearance.
In the first two seasons of Twin Peaks, all we knew about Diane was that she seemed to be a very capable character, supporting Agent Cooper. “There aren’t many characters on the show that we got to have fun with or make a little bit bolder,” Steiner has commented. “With Diane being the secret that she was for so long, we just wanted to make her stylish and interesting-looking and beautiful.”
Diane’s appearance and character
Diane’s look is pure vintage, and heavily inspired by Asian art. It features bright colors and bold patterns – both in apparel and nail polish. She is a chain-smoker and frequent drinker, favoring good quality vodka on the rocks.
Diane has an iPhone case by the popular Irish designer Orla Kiely, which is an intriguing choice for a character who otherwise follows her own path sartorially. What we see throughout most of series three is the tulpa of Diane; despite this, those who know her best don’t seem to realize. We can only assume that the tupla shares enough of Diane’s true likeness to fool those closest to her. That likeness appears to be no bullsh*t, sweary and dedicated to Cooper.
How to act like Diane
It’s advisable to be constantly smoking, and carry a tiny bottle of vodka on you at all times for emergencies. You’ll need to swear plenty. You should also walk with authority and look serious. Don’t forget the iPhone and gun in your handbag, which you may need to check regularly. Look disdainful at every opportunity, and don’t forget to say, “F*ck you, Tammy!” a few times.
